Recently my family has taken on the relatively daunting task of relocating to another city after twelve years in a community we love. Nine of those years we have spent in this particular house…and we are all struggling a bit with all the mixed emotions that come with moving. As I am starting the process of giving our home a face lift, and de-cluttering (BLEH) to get it “market ready,” I’m realizing that all those years of regular Good Will runs, (apparently) didn’t quite keep a lid on that stuff that is now laughing at me from the drawers, closets and cupboards. More than 150 youth from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today will begin “Haitian Soles,” an effort to collect more than 3,000 shoes for donation to Haiti as part of a youth conference that will include a 5K run in North Houston.
Collection bins will be placed in LDS church buildings and other locations in North Houston from March 9 to April 20 with the goal to collect enough shoes to fill a shipping container. From baby shoes to adult pairs, dress shoes to hiking boots, the youth are looking for all they can gather. [Read more…]
Anyone who has ever wondered who the Latter-day Saints are just got a chance to find out. The Waller congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as Mormons, opened its doors for an event on Saturday, February 22 called “Meet the Mormons Next Door.”
The event was a non-proselytizing opportunity for people in the community to learn more about the Church and its service in the community. [Read more…]
