As the sun set at Alexander Deussen Park, runners set off at the inaugural Dusk Dash 5k & Family Run to benefit Boy Scout Troop 474 sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Summerwood.
“This event will raise money to allow the boy scouts in the troop to go on one high adventure camp and other campouts and activities throughout the year,” said event organizers Alec Dunn and Pete Fontano.
Participants signed up to walk or run a 5K or a one-mile Family Fun Run.
Alexander Hales, 18, of Humble won the 5k. He trained as a member of the cross-country running team at Atascocita High School and came to support his former troop at the event.
Strollers and families filled the trails during the one-mile Family Fun Run.
Caleb Jones of Atascocita ran with his two daughters ages 3 and 6. He said, “This was the first race I have run with my two daughters. We had a good time running together and are planning on running a couple more family fun runs this year.”
Event organizers said the event was a success, ”We were able to help the boy scouts raise some funds and get people in the community involved. Look for the Dusk Dash at Deussen in 2014.”
