The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) joined over 55 other vendors, health and information providers at the largest and most well-attended of the 5 community health fairs provided by Neighborhood Centers, Inc. at the Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center in the Gulfton/Sharpstown area of southwest Houston on Saturday, August 30. More than 2500 participants lined up beginning at 6 am for the free family event which included health screenings, nutrition information, entertainment on stage, and immunizations for back-to-school. SPRING TEXAS – It’s not all that unusual for a youth conference to include some kind of service activity. But completing three different major projects in two days?
That is exactly what about 170 Houston North Stake young men and women did Easter weekend. During the conference, built around the theme “We Are His Hands,” they collected over 3,000 shoes for Haitians in need, planted nearly 150 trees in a historic neighborhood, and assembled some 7,000 meals at a food bank.
